Val Sorensen: Video games pose dangers

Remember when kids could play outside all day without their parents worrying about them? Not that many years ago, children actually would play outside as soon as they got off the school bus, and wouldn't go home until their mothers called them in for dinner. Now, though, parents can hardly leave their children for a second in the supermarket, for fear of abduction.

Today, children have a safe haven in front of their TVs with a video-game controller in their hand, rather than being out in the sun wielding a baseball bat. I'm not saying video games are bad, I'm just suggesting all that time in front of a TV playing games that promote violence and destruction may be giving children a negative learning experience that may influence future moral choices.

Humans are creatures of habit, and if they spend time killing and blowing things up as children, they might continue such activities in adulthood.
